about

Composed is the debut album from Scottish musician Dougie McCance, otherwise known as Dougie the Piper. Only a matter of months after he reached the final of the BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year competition in January 2017, Dougie has gone on to write, record and produce his first solo album, packed full of his original compositions.

Dougie is no stranger to recording in a studio environment, having recorded 3 albums with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers and played on the soundtrack to DreamWorks film How to Train your Dragon 2. He is also no stranger to high profile performances, having played the mainstage of Scotland’s biggest music festival T in the Park and performing with Ed Sheeren at the EMA Awards. Dougie also appeared on the Red Hot Chilli Pipers’ acclaimed DVD ‘Live at the Lake’.
However, according to Dougie recording his first solo album full of his own material has been his most nerve-wracking experience yet: “This is the first recording that really reflects me as a musician, which is exciting but also pretty terrifying! It’s quite daunting letting other people hear your work. I’ve been lucky enough to have the opportunity to record on various projects over the years but I am now at the point in my career where I want to release my own material that reflects me as a musician and showcases my own personal tastes in my tune writing.
